Studio + Lab

DW/B was founded on the understanding that architecture plays a vital role in maintaining community culture while balancing growth opportunities within the existing built environment. It is also a tool for design and technology that goes beyond the current built environment creating the potential for new stories of health, hope, and resilience.

Founder + Principal

Candace Maloney-Franklin was born and raised on the small Caribbean Island of St. Christopher (St. Kitts), where the importance of community and looking out for one’s neighbor was instilled in her from an early age. From early on in her career, Candace has carried these values into architecture - approaching her work with the deep belief that the input of residents who personally understand the history, assets and challenges of a community is critical to design and that thoughtful design should be accessible to all.

Candace’s passion has taken her to the smallest towns in Rural America to the largest Urban cities working on mixed-use developments, multi-family affordable housing, adaptive reuse projects, health clinics, commercial and landscape flood response design. She is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Maryland teaching Design Studio II. Candace brings the lens of impactful long-term solutions through research and community engagement to every space.

Candace holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from New York Institute of Technology.
